Panchenko compares Belarusian and Ukrainian ways, achievements

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Belarus did not shout about  independence and managed to preserve it, Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.

“Unfortunately, Ukraine can hardly be called an independent entity today. Today people in power in Ukraine are like, excuse my language, a monkey with a grenade. They are ready for anything to hold on to power. As of today the Ukrainian economy is in tatters,” Diana Panchenko stressed.

The journalist drew an interesting analogy: “For more than 30 years of Ukraine's independence I have been working as a journalist, and the word “independence” has been the buzz word. It has dominated the Ukrainian media landscape since 1991. First, we had to show how independent we were. Then, we were given the opportunity to show how independent we were with weapons in our hands. The word “independence” war ubiquitous. As far as I know, Belarus did not shout as much about this very independence, but it preserved it.Nowadays, Belarus is an independent country, while Ukraine is definitely not.”

Diana Panchenko noted that Belarus can manage its own resources, affairs and policy. “If I am not mistaken, Aleksandr Grigorievich said that the Soros Foundation was outlawed in Belarus back in 1997. You know, nowadays it is already mainstream to criticize Soros, as Elon Musk did. And already everyone is calling Soros a villain. But a while ago it was considered to be a bad and wrong thing, because this man was responsible for, let's say, promoting ‘democracy’ and liberal values all over the world,” she said.

The journalist noted that trends are changing. “Young people are always seeking change. This is quite natural. Stability is kind of boring thing compared to change. The point is that Belarus succeeded in channeling passionarity into good things, making it work for the good of the country. Nowadays, Belarus is independent. This is why it is so important to appreciate what you have, to appreciate peace, stability, your own path and to follow it,” she said.
