Over 1mn fish released into Belarus’ rivers

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) -  More than 1 million pike have been released into the water bodies of Belarus as part of the spring fish restocking efforts of socially important water bodies, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen (BSHF).

This time the Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen took care of three reservoirs in Grodno Oblast and Mogilev Oblast.

In order to increase the recreational value and productivity of fishing grounds, 570 different-aged pike (total weight of 680kg) and 360 two-year-old fathead pike were released into the Augustow Canal. This water body was also replenished with 50,000 pike fish.

“The process of resettlement of young fish requires special care. These pikes are still growing up. A year ago they were eggs, and now they have reached 30cm,” said Mark Baransky, deputy chairman - chief hunter of the Grodno Department at BSHF.

The Mikhnevichi quarry was stocked with two-year-old 600 specimens (600 kilograms) of fathead trout.

7,000 two-year-old carp (2,100kg) and 1.4 million pike were released into the Dnieper River section in Mogilev Oblast.

The stocking efforts were monitoried by a special commission, which included representatives of the usian Society of Hunters and Fishermen and nature protection organizations. For some time the gamekeeper service will be on duty on the banks of water bodies to stop any violations.
