MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – In a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel, Aleksei Avdonin, an analyst with the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research (BISR), reflected on what Belarus can offer to the countries of Africa and Asia.
“First of all, we offer the opportunity to make money together. We do not exploit the economies of African countries or countries of the Asia-Pacific region. In other words, we do not try to take advantage of our partners. On the contrary, Belarus seeks to set up enterprises that would benefit all sides. These are investments in education, science, advanced training of workers, their involvement in complex production processes,” Aleksei Avdonin said.
The analyst noted that, for example, the establishment of enterprises to manufacture cars or tractors allows increasing the level of agricultural mechanization in African countries. “This, in turn, allows ramping up the output of agricultural products for the domestic market, which helps strengthen food security. The efforts that Belarus invested in helping Zimbabwe improve its agricultural practices have allowed meeting the country's needs for agricultural products to a certain extent. Thus, we are contributing to food security of Zimbabwe,” he remarked.
Aleksei Avdonin went on saying that African and Asia-Pacific countries have natural resources that can be effectively used by Belarusian enterprises. “A struggle for rare earth metals is currently underway. And we need them for our microelectronics industry and other complex industries. And we can create entire chains linking mining and processing enterprises, and subsequently enterprises that use rare earths to create highly lucrative products. We can earn good money at all stages and raise living standards of our people,” the analyst added.
