MINSK, 11 August (BelTA) – Belarus, together with its allies, successfully holds out against Western sanctions, political scientist Aleksandr Shpakovsky told BelTA.
“No one cares what we are saying. There is a certain plan that the collective West is implementing in relation to Belarus. And now we are, let's say, at the final stages of this plan. This is economic strangulation of our state, since all other methods failed. I mean an attempt to stage a color revolution in our country, an attempt to destroy our economy through the so-called national strike, and even a conspiracy to seize power, which was exposed, and attempts to organize an underground resistance and sabotage, creation of some gangs on the territory of Belarus,” Aleksandr Shpakovsky said.
The political scientist emphasized that all these efforts proved futile. “The West has embarked on a large-scale economic strangulation of the Belarusian state, which implies gradual introduction of various kinds of sanctions and restrictions against the domestic economy. Our task and the task of our government is to take the necessary measures in coordination with the allies of Belarus - the Russian Federation, China, other countries that keep their markets open for us in order to mitigate the threats and risks posed by the sanctions of the collective West. In my opinion, we are pretty much succeeding so far,” he noted.
Aleksandr Shpakovsky also commented on the behavior of foreign journalists during the Big Conversation with the President. “They tested this program. On the day when Belarus marked the one-year anniversary of the presidential election (that was followed by these riots and a coup attempt aiming to overthrow the legitimate constitutional order), the collective West prepared another sanctions package, another pile of unfriendly and aggressive moves against the security of the Belarusian state and the welfare of each individual citizen. And these decisions had to be backed by the media. Therefore, all Western media outlets asked the same kind of questions - torture allegations, allegedly excessive violence in the streets, the illegitimacy of the government (it was unclear what criteria they used to assess the legitimacy and why such assessments were made by journalists), all kinds of moral and political assessments. It was done because all these media outlets were set to send the same message. This is called information support for managerial decisions, information support for government policy,” he added.
