MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) - The Omani delegation led by Minister of Health Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti visited the National Ophthalmology Center based at Minsk’s City Clinical Hospital No.10 on 21 June. The minister was impressed by the conditions, advanced equipment, and the comprehensive teamwork of specialists of various medical fields, the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry told BelTA.

The Omani delegation’s visit to Belarus this week focused on studying various aspects of the Belarus’ healthcare system. Among the areas of interest were approaches to ophthalmology, new treatment methods, and the opportunities available to Belarusian citizens through the national healthcare system. As a case study, the delegation led by the Omani health minister toured City Clinical Hospital No.10 in Minsk.

The hospital houses the National Ophthalmology Center. It includes three adult eye microsurgery departments and one for children. There are a total of 195 beds available, as well as clinical diagnostic units for adults and children.

An emergency ophthalmology room operates around the clock. The center uses the most advanced diagnostic, laser, and surgical methods to treat eye diseases, injuries, and their complications. In 2024 alone, the center performed over 10,000 eye surgeries, including complex procedures such as corneal transplants, and 19,000 laser surgeries.

Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti expressed admiration for the size and equipment of the surgical unit and the volume of cutting-edge procedures performed. “This facility features state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment. In the laser eye microsurgery department, we saw modern diagnostic and laser tools used to treat eye diseases and injuries. What stood out most was the clinic’s integrated approach. Great emphasis here is placed on teamwork between ophthalmologists and specialists in endocrinology, cardiology, neurology, and surgery. This multidisciplinary approach ensures timely and accessible care, particularly in urgent cases involving complex conditions,” he said.

The Omani delegation also visited the Alexandrov National Scientific and Practical Center of Oncology and Medical Radiology. The delegation studied new technologies, diagnostic methods, and treatments for malignant tumors. The guests had the opportunity to observe the work of the center’s departments and laboratories.

During their visit to the National Scientific and Practical Center of Cardiology, the Omani guests were introduced to medical devices used in delivering high-tech care to patients with cardiovascular diseases.

Oman’s health minister was also impressed by  the full cycle medical care model implemented by the National Medical Center under the Belarus President Property Management Directorate.

As it was previously reported, on 18 June, the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry and the Ministry of Health of the Sultanate of Oman concluded the Memorandum of Understanding. The document opens up opportunities for deeper and closer cooperation between the two countries in various areas, including medical treatment, education, and medical product production.
