NATO troops in Lithuania compared to occupation

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – The construction of United States military bases and the projected deployment of German troops in Lithuania suggest that Lithuania is an occupied country, Colonel Andrei Bogodel, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Education and Science - Head of the Education and Methodology Department of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at the Military Academy of Belarus, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

“Sometimes in social media we see videos of road signs in Lithuania that say: ‘Minsk is occupied by the Kremlin’. What makes them think we are occupied? We have a Union State. Let's now look at the Lithuanian constitution. It clearly prohibits the deployment of foreign states' military bases on the territory of the country,” Andrei Bogodel said.

However, NATO is building military bases in Lithuania. The country is planning to host a German military contingent. “So who is occupied by whom? Is the constitution a document that means nothing to them?” he added.

According to Andrei Bogodel, it is clear that Lithuania is an occupied country today. Moreover, Warsaw also poses a threat to Vilnius. “Poles are not the kind of people who do something for no reason. Poles and Ukrainians are mutually hostile. Poles have exactly the same hostility towards Lithuanians,” he noted.
