Monument to Belarusian poet Yanka Kupala to be unveiled in Ashgabat

VITEBSK, 13 March (BelTA) -  A monument to Belarusian famous poet Yanka Kupala will be installed in Ashgabat, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Belarus Nazarkuly Shakulyev told journalists as he visited Vitebsk State Medical University (VSMU), BelTA has learned.

"This year marks the 300th anniversary [of the birth] of our great poet Magtymguly Fragi. Various events are running from January to December. Ashgabat will host a meeting of culture ministers of many countries in May, heads of state and government in October. We will unveil a large 60-meter monument to the poet and the alley named after him, which will honor representatives of foreign states, including  Yanka Kupala," he said.

The ambassador added that the sculpture will be 4.9 meters high. "We have already received all approvals from the Belarusian side. We are expecting [numerous guests] to attend this event, including Belarus’ culture minister. The invitation to the October event was sent to your president," Ambassador Nazarkuly Shakulyev emphasized.

Today, during his visit to Vitebsk State medical University, the diplomat got familiar with the conditions of education and life of foreign students, held a meeting with the administration of the university and citizens of Turkmenistan studying there.
