Military expert: It makes no sense for Washington to keep nuclear weapons in Europe

MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) - If we take a look at the far-reaching plans of the USA to establish relations with Russia, we will see that it makes no sense for Washington to keep nuclear weapons in Europe, military expert and political analyst Yakov Kedmi said a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project “V teme” [On point] as he commented on the Polish president's call for the U.S. nuclear weapons deployment in the country.

“Today Polish elites sell Poland to any country that wants to use its territory against Russia. This is what Poland is like today. It does not care even if it is Germany. Or better, the UK or the USA. It suggests now that they deploy nuclear weapons on its territory! This is what Poland is like. Paraphrasing the Russian president's definition, it is a country with reduced state responsibility,” Yakov Kedmi said.

Speaking about the Polish leadership's proposal to deploy U.S. nuclear weapons on its territory, the analyst noted that the USA considers any proposal from the point of view of benefit and expediency. “Why would the United States need nuclear weapons on the territory of a European country? Against whom? If the United States continues to adhere to the concept that there is no threat from Russia, why would the USA need nuclear weapons in Europe? And the presence of U.S. troops in general? If there is no conflict with Russia and even its probability, why do the USA need it?” Yakov Kedmi asked a rhetorical question.

In his opinion, the USA is changing its policy for the reason that in the event of an armed conflict between Russia and European countries, the first blow will be on Washington. “If Washington eliminates itself from this, then let Europe handle its own affairs. If you look deeply into the far-reaching plans to restructure relations with Russia, it makes no sense for the USA to keep nuclear weapons in Europe today,” the analyst concluded.
