MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) - Head of the Russian Center for Military and Political Conflict Studies Andrei Klintsevich assessed the state and prospects of the Belarus-Russia Union State’s military-industrial complex in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Any conflict is first of all a clash of systems. And here we got lucky, because the military-industrial system (just like Belarus’, by the way) came to us from the Soviet Union. There were large state reserves and so-called mothballed workshops for producing expendable materials,” said Andrei Klintsevich. “As specialists told me, now that we’ve brought them out of mothballs, with modern technology we’ve exceeded Soviet design capacity by four times.”

Thus, the expert stated, Russia together with its allies produces more shells than NATO countries combined. Moreover, in terms of price-quality ratio, the products also outperform Western counterparts.

“There is still a lag in satellite constellations. This applies not only to communication systems, but also to earth remote sensing systems. This is an area where we still have room to grow,” emphasized Andrei Klintsevich. “Our advanced earth remote sensing satellites operate using Belarusian optical systems. Everything that could be called the ‘eyes’ of the satellites is Belarusian-made. This is an area where we have work to keep our enterprises busy and room to develop further.”
