Mercenary explains why Lithuania denies residence permits to Belarusians en masse

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – Lithuania denies residence permits to Belarusians on a mass scale, Vasily Veremeichik, a mercenary, who participated in the hostilities in Ukraine as a member of the Kalinovsky Regiment recognized as a terrorist organization in Belarus, said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA learned.

Vasily Veremeichik said that there were numerous conflicts among Belarusian fighters in Ukraine. He himself often asked the mercenaries’ leadership uncomfortable questions about financing, organizational work, and the existence of a charter. As a result, Vasily Veremeichik and a number of other mercenaries were banned from entering Ukraine for three years.

The mercenary moved to Lithuania and applied for a residence permit. About six months later, he received a refusal from the Lithuanian migration service. It stated that Vasily Veremeichik was a threat to the national security of Lithuania and that he was banned from entering Lithuania and other Schengen countries.

“There are many people who have been denied residence permits form the Lithuanian migration service simply because they once served in the police or the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus. This is quite a mass phenomenon. I know at least dozens of such cases,” Vasily Veremeichik emphasized.
