MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) — The CIS integration cooperation is picking up pace, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev told the media, BelTA has learned.
"The integration cooperation is gaining steam. Many sectoral councils hold their meetings. Today the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives has met in Minsk to discuss topical issues," Sergei Lebedev said. "Sectoral councils of the CIS member states continue to contribute their views on various issues, which is seen as useful. A report on the activities of the Council for Cooperation in Fundamental Science of the CIS countries will be heard today. This important council was established in 2011, and it’s particularly remarkable that the initiative came from below. Representatives of fundamental science and the heads of academies of sciences of the CIS countries initiated its establishment in order to facilitate cooperation in the field of fundamental science, and the results have already been seen. Many meetings were held. The council works closely with the International Association of Academies of Sciences, where the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is an active member."
According to Sergei Lebedev, a youth council has been established there in order to involve it in scientific research and development. "This council holds many conferences and meetings, develops cooperation programs in the field of fundamental sciences, and defines promising areas in fundamental science that can be jointly developed," the secretary general noted.
A regular meeting of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member States to the statutory and other CIS bodies is being held at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk. At the meeting, the permanent representatives will discuss the results of the activities of the Council for Cooperation in Fundamental Science in 2020-2024, the implementation of the roadmap of security initiatives put forward by the heads of delegations during the meetings of the CIS Heads of State Council, the CIS Heads of Government Council, the CIS Foreign Ministers Council and the CIS Economic Council.
