Kursk incursion described as attempt by Kiev to force Russia to use nuclear weapons

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) - The attack on Kursk Oblast was aimed at forcing Russia to use nuclear weapons in response, independent military analyst Aleksandr Alesin said in the latest episode of  said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.

“Russia will not fall for provocations by the West, although it is forced to respond in a tough, emotional way. Up to the use of nuclear weapons. This would give carte blanche to NATO to actively intervene in the conflict in Ukraine. In addition, it would drastically reduce the number of supporters of Russia even among its allies in the Global South. This is a very dangerous provocation. It consists of several layers, and one of the main ones is an attempt to force Russia to give up on the tactics of slow destruction of the Ukrainian army," Aleksandr Alesin said.

According to the military analyst, in the so-called war of attrition, the Russian army is unequivocally defeating the Ukrainian army. In addition, he stressed, Russia surpasses Ukraine in such parameters as natural and human resources, military industrial capacities. "As the famous military theorist Carl von Clausewitz said, ‘the disarming or overthrow of the enemy, whichever we call it, must always be the aim of warfare.’ Once the enemy’s army is defeated you will dictate the law to him. The tactics that the Russian army is now using is  working to fulfill this task," the military analyst believes.

Ukraine lacks not only manpower and hardware. People are not willing to sacrifice their lives for dubious purposes, Aleksandr Alesin said. The operation in Kursk Oblast was aimed at making Russia abruptly change its tactics and move from a war of attrition to large offensives that could lead to heavy losses on its part, he added.
