Kochanova meets with Ilham Aliyev

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova has met with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Baku, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to convey best regards and greetings from our President Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko. The Belarusian leader always speaks kindly of the fraternal Azerbaijani people, of your country and, of course, of your good relations, calling you a good friend, a brother. We appreciate this very much,” Natalya Kochanova said.

“It is a great honor for me to meet you in person today. I would like to thank our colleagues for the invitation to take part in such a high-profile parliamentary event. This is my first time in your amazing country,” the speaker noted.

According to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, it is gratifying that friendly nation of Belarus is represented at such a high level and that Belarusian parliamentarians had the opportunity to communicate with their colleagues during the visit. “We need to meet more often,” he emphasized.

The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus led by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova arrived in Azerbaijan on an official visit. The program of the visit includes participation in a session of the Executive Council of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and the 15th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

The APA was established in 2006 to coordinate the efforts of national parliaments to address pressing problems, including by increasing the parliamentary role in ensuring peace in Asia. The Assembly acts as one of the instruments of inter-parliamentary dialogue in the region, its activities are aimed at developing a collective strategy for ensuring security and stability in Asia.
