Kochanova: Belarus, Republika Srpska have many areas for cooperation

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) - Belarus and Republika Srpska have a lot of points of contact in cooperation, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with the parliamentary delegation of Republika Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina led by Chairwoman of the Republika Srpska Council of Peoples Srebrenka Golić on 19 March, BelTA has learned.

“We already have certain achievements in trade and economic cooperation. Since December 2024, we have started to supply agricultural machinery to Republika Srpska. We have good results in cooperation in the healthcare system, and our doctors provide medical assistance to your citizens. We welcome such steps. We have agreements that were reached during the visit of the president of Republika Srpska. They include cooperation in the supply of electric buses to your country, and the establishment of joint medical and pharmaceutical enterprises. I would like to say that we have a lot of common ground in trade and economic cooperation and we are ready for this cooperation,” Natalya Kochanova said. “I know that we have already drafted a comprehensive intergovernmental memorandum, which defines the development of our cooperation in absolutely all areas. Of course, we would like this memorandum to be signed in the near future so that we can work more actively in all areas.”

According to the speaker, there are certain developments in humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. “Our experts are working on an agreement between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Republika Srpska. It is important for us to cooperate in education and youth policy. There is a Youth Council under the Council of the Republic, which includes 138 young people from all the country’s regions. I very much hope that we will also develop cooperation in the youth policy. It is important for young people to develop friendship. This is the future of our countries and good relations between our peoples. That is why we are working on an agreement on cooperation in education. This is very important for us, and so is the cooperation between women's organizations,” Natalya Kochanova added.

The parliamentary delegation headed by Chairwoman of the Republika Srpska Council of Peoples Srebrenka Golić is visiting Belarus on an official invitation from Natalya Kochanova, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic, the Belarusian upper house of parliament. This decision was taken after a meeting between Natalya Kochanova and Srebrenka Golić on the margins of the Fourth Eurasian Women's Forum (in St Petersburg in September 2024).

The Republic of Srpska is an entity within the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, occupying 49% of the country under the Dayton Agreement of 1995. The economy of Republika Srpska is primarily based on industry and agriculture. The most developed sectors include the energy complex, wood processing, metallurgy, natural resource extraction, and textile production. The Republic of Srpska also has significant tourism potential due to its rich natural resources and attractions. Mountain tourism, spa tourism, religious, hiking, and ecological tourism are well-developed. The mountains and thermal springs (spa resorts) stand out among the many attractions and sites visited by tourists.
