Kazakhstan to host 1st CIS Fair in 2026

MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – The first meeting of the expert group to coordinate draft regulations for the interstate program titled CIS Fair was held at the CIS Executive Committee Office in Moscow, BelTA learned from the Economic Cooperation Department of the CIS Executive Committee.  

The initiative to hold the CIS Fair was put forward by Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in October 2024 at a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council.

The event is proposed to be held annually in the cities of the CIS member states along the Silk Road route. The first fair is planned to be held in Kazakhstan in 2026 in the ancient city of Taraz. The fair will showcase crafts, folk arts of the CIS countries and innovative products of the agro-industrial complex. The program will feature cultural events, educational activities, product presentations and immersion into local customs, traditions and national cultural heritage.

The expert group meeting, chaired by Kazakhstan, brought together representatives from Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the CIS Commission on Economic Issues under the CIS Economic Council, the CIS Interstate Council on Exhibition, Fair and Congress Activities, and the CIS Executive Committee.

The experts discussed proposals on the draft document concerning the organization of the CIS Fair.

The work on the draft regulations will continue during the next expert group meeting, which is scheduled for October 2025.
