MINSK, 25 January (BelTA) – The interest in Belarus' election campaign among journalists and observers is quite high, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Igor Karpenko told journalists, BelTA has learned.
“As of yesterday, the voter turnout was quite high - 35.99%. Today we will see the final turnout for early voting. Tomorrow, on the main voting day, the polling stations will be open from 8:00 to 20:00. The CEC information center has already started working. The interest in the campaign is quite high. More than 800 journalists have already been accredited, including more than 300 foreign ones. Plus 486 international observers. The largest observation mission was sent by the CIS. They also have the right to work at this center, receive objective, up-to-date information,” Igor Karpenko noted.
On 26 January, the center will release updates on the voting process (at 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00, 21:00). The regions and the Public Election Observation Center will join the work via video-conference. “Somewhere at 2:30a.m. on the night of 26 January to 27 January, we will put out preliminary results for the presidential election. More details will be available at 11:00 on 27 January. On 27 January, there will also be press conferences of the CIS, SCO observation missions and individual experts and heads of central election bodies who came to monitor the election,” the head of the CEC added.
Early voting is taking place from 21 January to 25 January 2025. Early voting is meant for people who will not be able to come to polling stations on 26 January. During early voting, precinct commissions will work from 12:00 to 19:00 without a break. The main election day is scheduled for 26 January. Voters will be able to cast their ballots from 8:00 to 20:00.
