BERESTOVITSA DISTRICT, 21 February (BelTA) - Residents of Berestovitsa District immersed themselves in an atmosphere of fun and folk traditions at the Maslenitsa annual district festival, BelTA has learned.

For all the guests of the holiday, of whom there were many, the organizers prepared an interactive theatrical program called “Rejoice, O People - Maslenitsa is Coming!”.
There was no shortage of those willing to compete for prizes in the Maslenitsa contests: for the strongest man in Berestovitsa, the fastest pancake eater, the best in pillow fighting, the pancake relay race, and more. The residents of the district center cheered loudly and joyfully. Musicians and folk artists invited the townspeople to sing their favorite songs together.

The district competition "aLADny fest" (Pancake Fest) was also held during the festival. Local women raced against time to bake pancakes, each using their own tried-and-true recipe. The cooking, by the way, was done over a Swedish fire torch (a type of outdoor stove). As one of the competition participants, Anita Protasevich from the village of Massolyany, whose team baked 32 pancakes, said, teamwork is important in the process. “We have a lot of experience; I have been taking part in the competition for three years now, so we've gotten the hang of it. The most important thing is teamwork, so that everyone helps each other. You need a good candle [stove] and a solid frying pan. In the end, the pancakes turn out delicious. I make them, by the way, with boiling water," she said.

Nadezhda Dovgun and Yulia Sidorovich came to see Maslenitsa in Berestovitsa for the first time. The girls noted that the atmosphere at the festival was warm, good-natured, and cheerful. |Contests, games, treats – everything your heart desires. It's a wonderful holiday that concludes Maslenitsa week. These days we've been happily eating pancakes, and you can eat them in many different ways - with sour cream, with jam, or even with caviar,” the girls said.

The holiday traditionally culminated with the burning of the effigy, marking the end of winter and the welcome of spring.
“Maslenitsa in Berestovitsa Style| began with a festive procession and a merry round dance, which set the tone for the festivities on Town Hall Square in the district center.

Throughout the entire festival, hostesses from across the district prepared pancakes and treated the guests. As Veronika Sitko, whose job is to cook for the machine operators of the agricultural cooperative Parkhimovtsy said that today she was happy to make pancakes using her grandmother's recipe. “It's a recipe tested over the years: a kilogram of flour, a liter of milk, 200 grams of semolina, sugar, salt, and 100 grams of yeast. Pancakes turn out delicious. In total, we baked 700 of them for the holiday,” she said. “We also love baking pancakes at home. When the children come to visit, I always make some, and we treat ourselves to them as well. We use various fillings, but our favorite is mushrooms, onions, carrots, and boiled egg. We wrap it all in thin pancakes. It's always delicious. For my grandchildren, I make pancakes with cocoa and sweet fillings.”
