Ipatov: Belarus is eager to build strategic partnership with Iran

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) - Belarus and Iran are keen on building a strategic partnership, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Vadim Ipatov said during a meeting with the Iranian parliamentary delegation led by head of the Belarus-Iran parliamentary cooperation group at the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Ali Asghar Bagherzadeh in Minsk on 21 July, BelTA learned.

“We view Iran as an important partner in the region, an authoritative participant in international relations and we seek to establish a strategic partnership. We have a common understanding of the processes taking place in the world and are committed to forming a fair multipolar world order,” Vadim Ipatov said. “We have already come a long way in the diplomatic relations – 32 years of cooperation at this level. For us, contacts at the highest and highest levels are very important. In October of last year, the presidents of Belarus and Iran met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan and agreed to sign a joint statement on the in-depth development of interstate relations.”

The vice speaker recalled that the Roadmap for Comprehensive Cooperation for 2023-2026 was signed between the two countries. “This is what we propose to focus our efforts on,” he said. “Our countries have already achieved certain results here, but given the production capacities, the level of scientific, technological and innovative development of the countries, in light of the capacity of the EAEU and SCO markets, the potential is certainly bigger. Especially in terms of interregional cooperation. It is also a good tool for expanding business and tourist exchanges.”

“Belarus highly appreciates the strong relations and level of mutual support with Iran in the UN and other international organizations. We are grateful to Iran for supporting Belarus in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly,” Vadim Ipatov said. “Belarus is ready to continue cooperation within the framework of this authoritative international parliamentary structure and take part in the APA events.”
An Iranian parliamentary delegation led by head of the Belarus-Iran parliamentary cooperation group at the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Ali Asghar Bagherzadeh arrived in Belarus on 20 July at the invitation of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. The working group on cooperation with the Iranian Parliament at the National Assembly of Belarus and the Belarus-Iran parliamentary cooperation group at the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran are planning to hold a joint meeting. In addition to meetings in the House of Representatives, the Iranian parliamentary delegation is set to tour a number of mechanical engineering enterprises, Belarusian State Medical University, the National Library and the Khatyn memorial complex.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the eighth convocation set up a working group on cooperation with the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran in May 2024. The mission of the group which is led by Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs Sergei Rachkov is to promote the Belarusian-Iranian relations via parliamentary diplomacy.
