MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – The Indian Cinema Week has got underway in the Belarusian capital city, BelTA learned from the Embassy of the Republic of India in Belarus.
The Indian Cinema Week is taking place in the run-up to India's 75th Independence Day. The solemn opening ceremony was attended by Ambassador of India to the Republic of Belarus Shri Alok Ranjan Jha, Belarus' Deputy Culture Minister Valery Gromada, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the diplomatic corps.
“Belarus-India cooperation in the field of cinematography is on the upswing. In 2019, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Belarusfilm film studio and the Indian company Scintillating Global. Every year Indian movies make the cut to be featured at the Minsk International Film Festival Listapad, while Belarusian movies regularly participate in Indian film festivals and become its winners,” Valery Gromada noted. He expressed hope that the Indian Cinema Week in Minsk will become a good tradition.
The Indian ambassador sincerely thanked visitors for coming and noted that culture is a most important aspect of any nation. “Indian music, literature, traditional dance, cuisine have won millions of hearts around the world. Yet, Indian cinema stands out, as it overcomes geographic and linguistic barriers to delight people all over the world. Indian movies were immensely popular in the Soviet Union. Since that time, India has changed, so has the country's movie industry. The embassy wants to introduce the Belarusian audience to contemporary Indian movies,” Shri Alok Ranjan Jha said.
The Indian Cinema Week will be running in the Belarus cinema till 15 August. The organizers have no doubts that even most sophisticated viewers will find a movie to their liking: historical dramas, comedies, action movies, family movies – the whole gamut of genres will be presented. The entry is free.
The festival is organized by the Embassy of the Republic of India in the Republic of Belarus with the support of the Minsk City Council.
