Great potential for Belarus-Russia cooperation in education

MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have a big potential in education. Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets mentioned it at a joint session of the boards of the Belarusian Education Ministry and the Russian Education Ministry, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Ivanets said that participants of the session had discussed several key matters, including interaction at the level of general secondary education, ways to improve qualifications of pedagogues, ways to train pedagogues, who are supposed to raise genuine citizens on the basis of traditional values. “An association of Belarusian and Russian schools has been working on it for four years already. It develops dynamically. It includes over 500 schools. Over 180 events were held last year alone. We will actively promote this cooperation,” the education minister said.

The training of workforce in vocational schools is another important matter. “We work to unify education programs and teaching guidelines in order to make sure that our graduates have unified knowledge and competences,” the education minister added.

Participants of the session decided in favor of setting up an association of colleges of Belarus and Russia. “It is an important and breakthrough moment, which will allow integrating the level of vocational training in the two countries,” the official said.

Participants of the session talked a lot about the upbringing of students. “We see huge potential. I am talking not only about schools but also rehabilitation institutions, the work of student teams, and interaction with parents,” Andrei Ivanets said.
