Governor emphasizes long-term approach to Belarus-Russia regional cooperation

BORISOV DISTRICT, 25 June (BelTA) - Russia is the main trading and economic partner of Minsk Oblast, and the fundamental principle of cooperation is the development of long-term and mutually beneficial relations, Governor of Minsk Oblast Aleksei Kushnarenko said at a breakout session Regional Policy as Key to Sustainable Development of the Union State as part of the 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia at the BELGEE company, BelTA has learned.

The governor noted that the traditional Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness as a key driver of integration. Minsk Oblast, for its part, plays an active role in this process.“Russia is our main trading and economic partner, and the fundamental principle of our cooperation is the development of long-term and mutually beneficial relations. Our biggest partners are the Central, Northwestern, Volga, and Siberian federal districts. Minsk Oblast has the largest trade with Moscow and St. Petersburg and also with Moscow, Smolensk, Kemerovo, Leningrad, Sverdlovsk, and Tula regions, and the Republic of Tatarstan. I am confident that the joint work at the forum will considerably broaden both the geographic and thematic reach of our cooperation,” Aleksei Kushnarenko said.

He also emphasized that it is no coincidence that the breakout session is hosted by the flagship enterprise of Belarusian mechanical engineering. “It produces domestic cars under the BELGEE brand and is busy implementing joint import-substituting projects. We have direct contracts with the largest retail chains and supply high-quality Belarusian products to Russian consumers,” Aleksei Kushnarenko said.Minsk Oblast is also actively implementing roadmaps with the Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Moscow, and Omsk regions. In addition, meetings with the Oryol, Tyumen, and Ulyanovsk regions are held on an ongoing basis.

“I hope that the forum will help us step up our cooperation with other regions of fraternal Russia as well. Beyond the economy, we are fostering close ties in culture, education, sports, and tourism. The youth of Minsk Oblast participate in various events held in Russian regions. We exchange visits of creative groups. We will support and continue the established traditions, because interregional cooperation is a living, constantly developing organism. It is at the level of specific regions and districts that projects are born which become powerful drivers of the social and economic development of the entire Union State,” Aleksei Kushnarenko emphasized.
