GRODNO, 11 March (BelTA) – An investor from Germany intends to set up an agricultural enterprise to produce onions in Lida District, BelTA learned from the Lida District Executive Committee.
The agricultural project was named Tsybulka.by. The investor is currently preparing a contract and choosing a suitable land plot. The project was discussed at a meeting between manager of the German company Joerg Dornau, his partner – entrepreneur Yuri Kunitsky, and Chairman of the Lida District Executive Committee Sergei Lozhechnik.
“The German expert believes that the soil structure in the region is perfect for growing onions. He closely studied soil samples and was satisfied with the results. Another advantage is the geographic position of the region,” the executive committee noted. Preferences offered in Belarus also facilitate business development.
This year the investor will get 50 hectares in one of local farms to try growing five varieties of onions in Lida District. The enterprise is expected to produce up to 10,000 tonnes of onions in the future. Plans are in place to sell products not only in Belarus but also in the EAEU and EU member states. The enterprise might also cultivate other crops, including carrots, potatoes, barley, rape, and rye. The investor intends to use German and its own technologies. The project provides for creating the necessary infrastructure at the enterprise to store and transport products.
