FM comments on state of Belarus-Pakistan relations

ISLAMABAD, 26 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan have significantly intensified bilateral cooperation, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov told the media on the sidelines of the talks between Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan in Islamabad on 26 November, BelTA has learned.

Maksim Ryzhenkov noted that a large number of intergovernmental and inter-agency documents were signed following the talks, including the roadmap on comprehensive cooperation between Belarus and Pakistan. This document identifies priority projects and ideas that require development.

"But this was not enough for the president of Belarus and the prime minister of Pakistan. Certainly, I understand them. We and our colleagues have been instructed to hold additional talks while we are in Pakistan to see how to accelerate the implementation of the initiatives and include even more projects in them," the minister said.

By the return visit of the Pakistani prime minister to Belarus, the parties are set to draw up concrete agreements in order to formalize them and start their implementation.

According to Maksim Ryzhenkov, recently Belarus and Pakistan have significantly enhanced their relations. The countries held a number of meetings and bilateral events. Following the talks between the two leaders, the parties have agreed on visits of delegations and relevant ministers.

"We have strengthened our cooperation notably. This can have an accumulative effect and give us all more confidence in the matters related to bilateral cooperation, because we are under the reliable 'wing' of our leaders," the diplomat said.
