Expert shares his thoughts on reasons why Poland closed border with Belarus

MINSK, 24 September BelTA) – Poland’s decision to close the border with Belarus was not an independent one, Andrei Bogodel, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Education and Science – Head of the Education and Methodology Department of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at the Military Academy of Belarus, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
When discussing why Poland took such a step as closing the border with Belarus, the expert noted that Warsaw did not make this decision independently. “All this was done to support, among others, Donald Trump’s initiative, and not only his. The idea was about slightly disrupting the logistical chains with China. “After all, the military exercise had not even concluded, yet Poland was already hosting Wang Yi [China’s Foreign Minister]. But prior to meeting with Wang Yi, Karol Nawrocki flew over to Washington where he held talks with the president of the United States,” Andrei Bogodel remarked.

Thus, he believes, Polish President Karol Nawrocki has secured not only political but also military support from Donald Trump. The leaders of Poland and the United States discussed, among other things, the special conditions for the deployment of military bases in Poland, the expert added. However, Andrei Bogodel is convinced that the policy by the collective West is directed not only against China.

“If we look at this issue more broadly and determine what it actually was, we will see what strategy has been chosen by the collective West. Here it must be said that the West has not abandoned its objective of inflicting a defeat on Russia. All efforts are directed towards building the necessary capacity by 2030 to deliver a strategic defeat on Russia,” Andrei Bogodel believes.

Previously, it was reported that Poland sealed its border with Belarus on the night of 12 September. Warsaw justified the move as being in the interest of “national security” citing the commencement of the active phase of the joint Russian-Belarusian army exercise Zapad 2025. Later, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland would reopen the border with Belarus on the night of 25 September.
