MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Donald Trump's election as the US president marked the return to a pragmatic policy aimed at restoring the country's economic and technological potential, Igor Korotchenko, Russian journalist and military expert, editor-in-chief of the Russian National Defense magazine, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
According to him, Trump's election as the 47th President of the United States reverberated around the world. “Donald Trump's return to power against all the odds - attempts to deprive him of freedom and to ban him from running for president, a large-scale disinformation and defamation campaign, and finally, a series of assassination attempts - had far-reaching consequences,” the expert said.
He noted that Trump represents not only American conservatives, but also those who pursue pragmatic goals. First of all, the revival of the manufacturing industry and the return of high-tech production to the United States. “This prompted a change in the behavioral pattern of the hegemon that became concerned with different issues than those that were prioritized by the Joe Biden administration,” Igor Korotchenko emphasized.
The expert remarked that Trump looks all set to rethink American expansion and to strengthen control over geostrategic regions. “He is demonstrating a new direction of American expansion. The desire to make Greenland, Canada part of the United States of America... It looks like he wants to create a North American fortress united under the jurisdiction of Washington,” Igor Korotchenko said.
According to him, the new administration also plans to return to the strategic defense strategy that provides for deployment of orbital systems for intercepting ballistic missiles.
