"On Point"
MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – The Patriot systems, which Washington plans to send to Kiev, should be destroyed immediately after crossing the Ukrainian border, Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, retired colonel Viktor Baranets said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
Speaking about the U.S. plans to send 17 Patriot air defense systems to Europe, which may eventually find their way to Ukraine, Viktor Baranets drew attention to the statement by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius. The German military chief said it was a matter of long perspective. According to the military observer, Germany plans to train Ukrainian air defense troops and only then give them the Patriot systems.
“The main thing for us is to detect the movement of these Patriots, wherever they come from. It is one thing to trace them moving from the United States, another from Poland or Romania. We know all the corridors. The number one task is to track the moment they cross the state border of Ukraine. It is important to hit right away. This is a very difficult task, and 99% of success depends on intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. We have both satellite and aviation surveillance. Long-range drones are involved in gathering information too. Russia also has resident spies in Ukraine,” Viktor Baranets said.
Thus, the main task of the Russian army is to turn these supplies into a "bucket without a bottom." In other words, make them useless. However, it may come to the point that these systems will have to be destroyed in so-called hubs, for example, at airfields, where the hardware is stored.
It is also possible (it is the extreme case) when the president, the commander-in-chief orders a missile strike on the hubs, wherever they are. If the Polish airfield in Rzeszów has five or ten systems, perhaps our Kalibr, Kinzhal or maybe Oreshnik will fly there. This is how the situation is now,” Viktor Baranets stressed.
