"On Point"
MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) - We do not know how the negotiations are going, we do not know what the true goals of the United States are, and therefore we can only guess whether they really want to end the conflict in Ukraine, Igor Shishkin, an expert of the Institute of CIS Countries, said in a recent episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“We don't know right now how the negotiations are going. We don't know what the true goals of the United States are. This is all cloak and dagger right now. We can only guess here. But there are some hypotheses that can be substantiated and are more or less probable. So I suggested that the United States does not need true peace in Ukraine. Maybe they do need peace. Maybe there is this fork in the road: if there is peace, it is good, if there is no peace, it is also good. Or even better. This option is also possible. This should be taken into account,” Igor Shishkin said, stressing the need to analyze everything that is happening.
He also added that one should not trust those who assure that they know everything about the negotiation process. “When someone says that he knows exactly how the negotiations are going, what goals Trump is setting, what goals Putin is pursuing, well, then they are lunatics,” the expert noted.
Discussing the topic of the U.S. peacekeeping rhetoric, in particular its President Donald Trump, Igor Shishkin noted that now it is quite difficult to give a precise answer to the question whether the end of the Ukraine conflict is beneficial for them.
