Expert enthusiastic about deployment of Oreshnik missiles in Belarus

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – Russia and Belarus represent a single military and political entity, a single military union today. PhD in Law, expert on the operation of security agencies Sergei Karnaukhov made the statement as part of BelTA’s YouTube project V Teme [On Point].

Sergei Karnaukhov said: “I suggest treating the foreign policy of the Union State of Belarus and Russia with respect considering the deep thought that went into everything that is going on now on the part of Belarus and on the part of Russia. What context was merged with the session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia? First of all, we saw an invasion by pro-Turkish and pro-American militants into Syria. Secondly, the threat of strikes by long-range missiles deep into Russia’s territory remains in place. Thirdly, tensions at Belarus’ borders remain high. None of the forces deployed along Belarus’ borders by unfriendly countries have abandoned their intentions to destabilize the situation in the country. In these conditions it was necessary to demonstrate to the West, including to the new Administration of the United States of America, that Russia and Belarus represent a single military and political entity today. It is very important. The fact that we don’t simply cooperate but we represent a single military union. And that the West has no chance of having decisive military impact, in particular, on Belarus.”

The expert made a few comments about the decision to deploy Russian missile systems Oreshnik in Belarus’ territory: “We could have said that a long time ago. We could have done it without announcing it for the entire world to hear. It could have been a simple press release. No. We did it by the book. We convened the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and told everyone, who eyes our states today: guys, do you see what Oreshnik is? Have you seen what kinetic consequences a strike without a warhead has? Are you terrified? So today Oreshnik can be deployed in Belarus’ territory, too.”

“Although there is an important detail. Any expert can now say: listen, for Oreshnik it doesn’t matter where the launch vehicle is, whether it is in Belarus or not. Oreshnik and other hypersonic missiles can ensure the defense of any country on the planet without deploying missiles in this country. But the meaning is totally different. Certainly, the time in flight gets shorter a bit. But it changes nothing for the country Oreshnik targets. It will still get there. Albeit 10 seconds later. It is a symbolic significance. They need to know that this country is a platform they should avoid. Because a strike would be triggered. This is what the West needs to understand. It has not abandoned attempts to ostensibly encroach upon Belarus’ sovereignty. We’ve told them: guys, it won’t work,” Sergei Karnaukhov added.
