Expert dwells on idea of technological sovereignty

MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) - Technological sovereignty is a priority for the development of the country’s economy, economic expert, head of the Aksios educational center of Giprosvyaz Yuliya Abukhovich said in a new episode of BelTA’s YouTube project V Teme [On Point].
“We are increasingly turning to the notion of technological sovereignty. This issue is high on the agenda, and it is quite understandable. Yes, we are witnessing economic growth, but we may not be able to achieve such rates anymore. The world is changing, business environment is changing, markets are becoming saturated. In order to show growth, we need to move forward. This is where the issue of technological sovereignty arises,” said Yuliya Abukhovich.

According to the expert, this concept includes the availability of technology and a solid economic base. It is not only about possession, but also about the development of specific tools. “With any, even the best relations with other countries, there may be situations when, for one reason or another, our counterparties in a deal may let us down. This should not happen. We have learned something from the bitter experience of sanctions, with our partners abandoning us. Western companies left, and some of them did it really loudly,” she emphasized.

Yuliya Abukhovich added that Belarus cannot develop everything yet, but our country has outstanding achievements in many areas of production. “It is clear that we cannot produce everything. A banal reason is that it is not always necessary. Of course, we will buy some technologies from our partners. But many technologies we can make ourselves. Technological sovereignty is a priority for the development of our economy,” the expert concluded.
