MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – If foreign troops are deployed in Ukraine, they may be considered by Russia as legitimate military targets, Russian military observer of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, retired colonel Viktor Baranets said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Ukraine is turning into a lucrative commodity - not only for the US, but also for Europe. The Europeans are so vocal about it because they are also looking how to profiteer from it. Trump does not want peace, he wants big bucks. That’s how he sees his interests there,” said Viktor Baranets.
According to the military observer, European politicians are constantly talking about the need for some peacekeepers in Ukraine. In particular, French President Emmanuel Macron has suggested this. Viktor Baranets emphasized that the UN Charter clearly defines the terms of deployment of peacekeepers in a particular country. “Peacekeepers can be sent only with the consent of the conflicting parties,” he remarked.
The Russian leadership made it clear that foreign military contingents in Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets. “The brazen entry of unauthorized troops is, in fact, a casus belli. Because we will strike,” said Viktor Baranets.
