MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – If Belarus and the United States succeed in building relations, they should not be dependent on shifting sentiments within the American administration, political scientist Piotr Petrovsky said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
According to the political scientist, if Minsk and Washington succeed in building relations, those ties must be stable and not subject to changing sentiments within the US administration. “They should not fluctuate depending on which administration is in power. America must finally and irrevocably recognize Belarus’ sovereignty and independence, and pursue a corresponding policy,” Piotr Petrovsky said.

At the same time, he stated, there is no talk of building any kind of allied relations. It should also be taken into account that Eastern European countries are not priority partners for the US. “Take Poland, which boasts of its unique, as they say, ‘exclusive’ relations with its overseas allies. We see their trade turnover, which is simply laughable. And we don’t expect any significant trade turnover with the Americans. But we can count on the creation of joint production facilities with localization and transfer of expertise,” the political scientist emphasized.

Piotr Petrovsky believes that the establishment of such production facilities in Belarus, rather than simply an attempt to sell goods that are not in demand in other countries, is a guarantee of the US’s serious intentions.
