Expert: A favorable year for Belarus in the food security index ranking

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) - Irina Novikova, head of the department of management, business technologies and sustainable development of Belarusian State Technical University, spoke about Belarus' forecast indicators in the index of food security in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.

“If you look at our ranking on the food security index, we had a good place in 2020 - 23rd, Russia had 24th. Last year was not very good for us, and the president spoke about it, too,” said Irina Novikova.

In her words, the harvest in Belarus was about 7.5 million tonnes of grain in 2021. “It is not enough for Belarus. According to the scheme: one tonne per capita per year. That is why we have moved down to the 36th spot,” the expert added.

Irina Novikova pointed out that Belarus gathered 11 million tonnes of grain in 2022. In this regard, the expert said that Belarus can expect its position in the ranking to change.
