MINSK, 8 August (BelTA) - Despite Western sanctions pressure, Belarus and Russia have held firm, PhD in Economics Georgy Grits said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
The expert noted that Western sanctions have primarily backfired, harming the economies of the sanctioning states themselves. According to various estimates, the EU has lost around $1.5 trillion due to sanctions. Additionally, the EU has spent hundreds of billions supporting the Kiev regime in the Ukrainian armed conflict. Yet, as the expert emphasized, the West failed to achieve one of its key goals - the collapse of the Russian and Belarusian economies.
“Neither Lukashenko nor Putin could be broken by sanctions. Belarus and Russia have withstood,” Georgy Grits stressed.
The analyst pointed out that Belarus has been actively developing and strengthening cooperation with Eastern nations and the Global South. Moreover, Belarus has gained full membership in the SCO and become a partner of BRICS.
