MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) - Technological leadership is one of the most important tools of competitiveness, Vadim Bogush, Rector of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR) and delegate to the VII Belarusian People’s Congress said on the air of the First News TV Channel, BelTA has learned.
When asked about the significance of the issue of technological sovereignty for Belarus, Vadim Bogush noted: “In the global economy, technological leadership is one of the most important instruments of competitiveness, and the world’s leading powers (the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China) place their main emphasis precisely on technological leadership. The global economy is not always benevolent, especially toward Belarus, and there are certain areas in which we must ensure technological independence and sovereignty.”
“Another very important point, also highlighted by the president, is import independence. First of all, this concerns two directions. The first is technological leadership and sovereignty in industries where we already have competencies: traditional ones such as automobile manufacturing and electronics,” the rector said. “The second direction is new sectors related to production, for example aircraft manufacturing, and the rapidly developing fields of information and digital technologies. Here the High-Tech Park and new technologies themselves play a crucial role. They not only enter traditional sectors of our economy, manufacturing or agriculture, but also change social attitudes. That is why these issues, including security, received special attention.”
Vadim Bogush added that technological leadership is always a competitive process. “The struggle is not for technologies themselves now, but above all for human resources capable of developing them. It is a combination of factors, with the person at the center.” The rector emphasized that the socio-economic development program is also built on the principle that the human being is at the core.
