Defense Ministry: All tasks have been accomplished during the Zapad 2025 exercise

MINSK, 16 September (BelTA) – All the assigned tasks have been accomplished during the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2025, BelTA learned from Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Defense Minister of the Republic of Belarus Pavel Muraveiko.

Pavel Muraveiko said: “The Zapad 2025 exercise has given quite a lot of materials for contemplation about the nature of modern combat operations, about the procedure for carrying them out and about improving the training of the troops for current events and for peculiarities of modern war. We have accomplished all the tasks we have set for ourselves. Among significant events I can mention the planning and the consideration of the application of non-strategic nuclear weapons, evaluation and deployment of a mobile missile complex Oreshnik. We used various variants of unmanned aerial vehicles a lot. Apart from that, we’ve considered an entire complex of hybrid modern techniques used during combat operations in populated localities, in swamps and forests, and in urbanized terrain. Our Russian colleagues have shared their combat experience with us. It allows me to say that today our units are getting state-of-the-art, most perfect information that is automatically integrated into combat reality.”
He also pointed out that it will be necessary to analyze actions of every army unit and formation in detail. “I can already say with confidence that we’ve secured good tactical, operational, and field skills of the troops. In particular, we have learned how to fight drones regardless of their type. Besides, our tactical air defense neatly processed and shot down all the assigned aerial targets. We also actively studied forms and methods of operation during assault on population centers, during sweeping the territory captured by illegal armed units and sabotage and reconnaissance forces using the latest means of transportation: motorcycles, buggies, all kinds of robotized systems, which allowed delivering snipers and shooters to a combat area and providing material and technical support for our units,” the General Staff chief noted.

Apart from that, radioelectronic warfare assets were actively used. “Today our defense industry makes cutting-edge solutions that have entered service with the Belarusian army. It allows us to use the latest equipment,” the first deputy defense minister stressed.

Pavel Muraveiko noted that Belarusian military personnel had acquired invaluable experience of working together with colleagues from the Russian Federation. “Apart from that, I believe that we’ve achieved rather good results in counterbattery fire. Today our missile forces and artillery have the means that detect, identify, and promptly feed the enemy’s battery coordinates in order to efficiently fight them,” he said.

The General Staff chief underlined that quite many things have yet to be analyzed and understood. “Our soldiers and officers have learned how to actively use the infrastructure, terrain folds. They actively camouflage, prepare and create the elements that allow surviving in modern armed conflicts. It is the key result of the exercise,” Pavel Muraveiko concluded.
