CSTO holds consultations ahead of UN General Assembly

MOSCOW, 27 August (BelTA) – Representatives of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states held consultations on the agenda of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in Moscow on 26 August. They were held in accordance with the plan for consultations among representatives of the CSTO member states on foreign policy, security and defense for 2025-2026, the CSTO press service told BelTA. 

“The consultations emphasized the importance of strengthening the UN’s role as the central coordinating mechanism in maintaining international peace and security. The parties elaborated on the national priorities and initiatives of the CSTO member states for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Prospects for CSTO member states participating in the UN peacekeeping activities were discussed. A mutual intent was noted to further develop CSTO-UN interaction across various areas of cooperation,” the press service stated.

“The consultations reaffirmed the strong alignment of approaches towards the UN's current agenda, the intention to strengthen the allied solidarity of the CSTO member states, and the coordination of their foreign policy activities within the global organization,” the press service emphasized.

The event was attended by plenipotentiary representatives of the CSTO member states, heads of relevant departments of the ministries of foreign affairs, and staff of the CSTO Secretariat.
