CSTO chiefs of general staffs discuss plans to develop organization's military component

MOSCOW, 13 December (BelTA) – A session of the Military Committee of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) took place in St Petersburg on 13 December. The session was held to discuss the development of military cooperation and involved chiefs of the general staffs of the CSTO armies, BelTA has learned.

Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, First Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov informed those present about priority areas of CSTO work in the military sphere during the Russian Federation's presidency over the Collective Security Treaty Organization in 2020. After the session he told reporters that the CSTO Military Committee had discussed the plan for developing the organization's military component in 2021-2025. Proposals on planning the development of the CSTO's military component in 2021-2025 were discussed. Decisions made during the session will help further development the CSTO's crisis response system in addition to enhancing the combat effectiveness of the CSTO armies. In his words, the chiefs of the general staffs discussed challenges and threats to military security in the regions of the CSTO's collective responsibility. They also confirmed the uniform understanding of the nature of these threats and the need to take concerted actions to neutralize the threats.

Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Anatoly Sidorov informed participants of the session about the main results of the strategic exercise Combat Brotherhood 2019 and about the fulfillment of the CSTO Military Committee's instructions concerning the improvement of the organization of control over CSTO troops during missions. The resolution of problems of international flights of CSTO air force units was mentioned as well as the stockpiling of materiel supplies in the interests of the CSTO Collective Forces.
