CIS to intensify work on legal education of youth

MINSK, 11 January (BelTA) - CIS countries are intensifying work on legal education of young people, BelTA learned from the Legal Department of the CIS Executive Committee.

An online meeting of representatives of the justice ministries on the implementation of the plan of main activities of the CIS Justice Ministers Council for 2025 has taken place in the CIS Executive Committee. It was attended by representatives of Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, heads of basic organizations in advocacy and notary activity, the executive secretary of the CIS Justice Ministers Council, and also employees of the CIS Executive Committee.

The event was dedicated to the topical issues of the Council's activities. Representatives of the CIS Justice Ministries took stock of the joint work for 2024, analyzed the results, and discussed the priority areas of the Belarusian Justice Ministry’s presidency in the Council from 1 January 2025.

The main issue on the agenda of the meeting was to ensure the implementation of the plan of main activities of the CIS Justice Ministers Council for 2025, which includes more than 20 activities in various areas of the Justice Ministries (international conferences, forums, seminars, round tables, working groups). The participants of the meeting discussed the criteria for defining legal education activities, made proposals to fill the action plan for the implementation of the Year of Legal Education in the CIS in 2027. They also noted the importance of continuing the active implementation of legal education of young people in the CIS member states with the involvement of all stakeholders.

One of the activities of the Council in 2025 will be to consider the issue of digitalization of legal aid, and, in particular, the development of a unified electronic system of information exchange between the CIS Justice Ministries. Representatives of the Justice Ministries also agreed to continue discussing the digitalization of free legal aid. Plans are in place to hold a number of international events in the area of advocacy and notary activities of the CIS member states in 2025.

The CIS Justice Ministers Council schedules the next event for February 2025.
