CEC: West’s reaction to Belarusian elections ‘a page from Sharp’s playbook’

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) - The West has reacted to the elections in Belarus in accordance with the guidelines prescribed in the notorious Sharp’s playbook, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said at a press conference on the preliminary results of the parliamentary and local elections at the CEC Information Center in Minsk on 26 February, BelTA has learned. 

Igor Karpenko was asked to comment on the reaction of the U.S. State Department and the German Foreign Ministry to the elections in Belarus. "I think that the Belarusian CEC should respond to their elections in the same vein. We'll probably take note. Without waiting for the voting results or findings by international experts or national observers, we will issue opinions on their elections. on their head be it," Igor Karpenko said.

The CEC chairman stressed: "When holding the elections we were guided by our Constitution and our Belarusian legislation. International observers will give their assessments. By the way, representatives of the missions will have their press conferences today. In any case, these are preliminary results. Media reports show that the electoral process was carried out strictly in accordance with the electoral legislation."

The West’s statements about the elections are very reminiscent of the notorious Sharp's playbook, Igor Karpenko added.
