CEC head describes presidential election in Belarus as open, transparent

MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) - The presidential election in Belarus was held in full compliance with the principles of openness and transparency, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus Igor Karpenko said during a session of the CEC, BelTA has learned.

"The presidential election in Belarus took place on 26 January 2025. It was held within the terms established by the national legislation, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and the Electoral Code and in full compliance with the principles of openness and transparency. A wide range of both national and foreign observers participated in this process. The election was widely covered in the information space, including the official website, social networks and messengers of the Central Election Commission. Thus, on the main election day the number of views in the official Telegram channel of the CEC exceeded 1.8 million, the number of reposts totaled almost 9,000," Igor Karpenko said. "All sessions of the Central Election Commission, including today's session, were broadcasted live on the CEC's official website. Statistical, methodical and other latest information was also posted there."

The CEC head praised the work of the CEC information center, stating that "its platforms helped to cover the voting process in a timely manner and provided voters, observers and media with relevant information”. He also noted that the information center allows regions to join the process via videoconference and provides them with information about the current situation, including at polling stations, during the election day.


"A total of 812 representatives of the media, including and 331 journalists from foreign media representing the countries of Europe, Asia, Latin and North America, and the Middle East, were accredited with the information center. Among those accredited were journalists of 70 leading world's media (BBC, Reuters (UK), Al Jazeera (Qatar), China Media Corporation (CCTV and CGTN), TASS, VGTRK (Russia), CNN, Associated Press (USA), AFP (France)) and major regional media (TeleSUR (Venezuela), ZDF, ARD (Germany), EFE (Spain), France Télévisions (France))," Igor Karpenko emphasized.
