CEC: Early voting in Belarus is proceeding smoothly

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Early voting is proceeding smoothly and in accordance with the electoral legislation, Secretary of the Central Election Commission Yelena Baldovskaya told reporters, BelTA has learned

“The early voting process is proceeding smoothly and in line with the electoral law,” Yelena Baldovskaya said.

“Almost 6% of voters came to the polls on the first day of early voting. If we talk about early voting in general, the two-day turnout across the country averaged 14.6%,” said the CEC secretary. “This is a fairly high turnout for early voting. If we compare, for example, the turnout during early voting with the referendum, the figures are approximately the same,” she remarked.

According to her, the Central Election Commission did not receive any information about violations at polling stations. “Voting is going on smoothly. Members of precinct commissions have been trained. They know the law and they understand what rights our voters have. Therefore, the voting process is proceeding smoothly and in accordance with the electoral legislation,” Yelena Baldovskaya said.
