BREST, 21 April (BelTA) – Baranovichi and Pinsk could twin with the cities of China’s Liaoning Province, Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Mikhail Batsenko told the journalists following the Brest Oblast delegation’s visit to China, BelTA has learned.
The delegation led by Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik visited China on 14-18 April. Brest Oblast and Liaoning Province signed a working plan for 2025-2027 to advance twinning relations between the regions. Both sides are interested in cooperation in economy, trade, education, healthcare, culture, tourism and sports.
"All our agreements will be reflected in this document," Mikhail Batsenko said.
The Belarusian and Chinese regions aim to promote their twinning ties. First steps have already been taken: Brest and Dalian signed a friendship and cooperation agreement last summer. It is expected that in the future similar agreements could connect Pinsk and Liaoyang, as well as Baranovichi and Benxi. Preparations for signing such agreements are underway.
"Brest and Dalian are twinned cities. Our current task is to identify areas of economic cooperation. We have already established ties in culture, education and healthcare. Now, it is time to move forward with economic projects that have specific goals and deadlines," Mikhail Batsenko stated.
For instance, Pinsk and Liaoyang are both known for their light industry. "We are interested in joining efforts and learning from China's experience, especially in selling products: they do this on a completely different level. While we rely on traditional methods, they sell through platforms like TikTok. New technologies and sales channels are crucial," he said.
Benxi, like Baranovichi, is an industrial city, which also opens great opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in mechanical engineering and machine tool manufacturing.
Brest Oblast has already concluded partnership agreements with four Chinese provinces: Anhui, Hubei, Shanxi and Liaoning.
