MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – Brest Oblast and India have everything in place to scale up cooperation in the agricultural industry, pharmaceutical sector, IT and other areas. Cooperation prospects were discussed at a meeting between Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Ashok Kumar on 11 June, BelTA has learned.

The ambassador is in Brest on a two-day visit. The day before, he visited the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex and the Savushkin Product enterprise, the flagship of the region’s processing industry. “Advanced technology and equipment as well as the automation of operations ensure the high quality of the company’s products. By the way, Savushkin Product sends large quantities of products to China,” Piotr Parkhomchik remarked. He added that in general Brest Oblast exports a lot of foodstuffs abroad.

The region pays much attention to investments. The Free Economic Zone Brest in Brest Oblast offers a special regime for businesses. Industrial parks that are now under construction in Baranovichi and Pinsk will operate on the principle of industrial hotels.

“Considering our capabilities, economic prospects, and the potential of the processing industry, it would only be natural to build solid partnerships. We must do everything possible to get our high-quality products to the shelves of India. I am confident that we will succeed,” Piotr Parkhomchik remarked.

Ashok Kumar described political relations between India and Belarus as ‘very good’, yet, there is still room for improvement in economic cooperation. “During the meeting with Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik, we had an in-depth discussion about the potential of bilateral cooperation. I was told that Brest Oblast has an advantage over other regions in the agricultural complex, so we will focus on it. We also discussed the IT sector, biotechnology, education, pharmaceutics and many other sectors,” the diplomat said.

On 11 June, the ambassador of India will visit the enterprises Sifania-Ecotechnika, STiM Brest, Gefest-Tekhnika, the Brest branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“As the Ambassador of India, I am primarily focused on industry and economic cooperation during my visits to various regions, although I am also interested in promoting cultural contacts. In particular, yesterday I visited the wonderful Brest Fortress. Yet, economy tops the agenda. I believe that all the enterprises that I have toured during my two-day visit can make a significant contribution to untapping cooperation potential between Belarus and India,” Ashok Kumar concluded.
