Bill to amend state secrets law passes two readings in Belarusian Parliament

MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) - The bill to amend the Law of the Republic of Belarus ”On State Secrets" passed two readings at a sitting of the second session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the eighth convocation, BelTA learned.

The bill was submitted to the House of Representatives by the Council of Ministers on 1 April 2025.

The bill proposes to grant access to state secrets to the chairman and members of the Presidium of the Belarusian People's Congress and the chairman of the Central Election Commission from the day of their election to these positions, and to the head of the Secretariat of the Belarusian People's Congress from the day of their appointment (amendments to Article 35 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On State Secrets”).

It is proposed to harmonize the provisions of the law with the Code of Civil Procedure of the Republic of Belarus with regard to the use of terms related to civil proceedings.

The bill, finalized taking into account the remarks of the Council of the Republic, was sent to the standing commissions of the House of Representatives, the Council of Ministers, the Supreme Court and other interested state bodies for legal, linguistic and criminological expertise. There were no comments on the proposed amendments.
