MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Rescuers, dog handlers and doctors of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry are working around the clock to help Myanmar deal with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, BelTA learned from the Emergencies Ministry.

“Local residents came to the Belarusian rescuers' camp for help: a child fell off a moped and injured his leg. The team's doctors treated the wound and took the boy to the Russian Emergencies Ministry hospital for surgery. Also, two local rescuers needed medical help after sustaining injuries while clearing the rubble,” the ministry said.

Three employees of the ZUBR medical team are in Myanmar to help the country deal with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. One of them is permanently deployed at the base camp to provide medical care to and perform round-the-clock medical checkups of the team members before and after rescue operations. The other two doctors are part of the search and rescue teams. They provide medical assistance to people trapped in the rubble during and after a rescue operation, they also do primary examination of people pulled from the rubble before handing them over to local first responders, and also monitor the health status of and provide medical assistance to members of the rescue team and sniffer dogs.

“Our task is to provide assistance on the scene: immobilization, anti-shock therapy, pain relief. We have all the necessary medications and equipment for this, including sophisticated medical devices. We also have the necessary supplies of antiseptics, disinfectants and water disinfection to maintain normal epidemiological conditions in places of temporary deployment,” said Yuri Geleklidi, a doctor with the ZUBR special forces unit of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.
