Belarusian Parliament speaker attends commemoration ceremony in Khatyn, calls to appreciate peace

LOGOISK DISTRICT, 22 March (BelTA) – We must appreciate peace, our families and friends, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko told the media as part of the ceremony in the Khatyn memorial complex to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the tragedy of the Belarusian village, BelTA learned.
“Being here it's hard to imagine what a mother locked in this barn went through as she understood she could not protect her child. It is hard to imagine what people felt as they came here, to these ashes in the first post-war years in the hope of finding some trace of their families. We must never forget about it. We must appreciate peace, our families and friends,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
According to him, the memory can be preserved by visiting such places and telling young people about it. This memory should be passed from generation to generation. “Khatyn is memory and pain at the same time. We come here to bow low to the memory of people who perished in the crucible of war, who were killed in this barn, burned alive. Here you can feel this ghastly grin of Nazism,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
Today new facts are being discovered - no less than 288 settlements shared the fate of Khatyn in Belarus. “It is important to see behind this amount of information, behind these figures the main thing - the personal tragedy of millions of our compatriots who perished during the Great Patriotic War,” the speaker summarized.
