Belarusian MPs encouraged to address problems prompted by life

MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – A large number of people make up the body of people’s deputies in Belarus. It is the largest “family” in the country. Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova made the statement on the air of the Belarusian TV channel STV, BelTA has learned.

Natalya Kochanova said: “Today we are electing 12,514 members of municipal councils of deputies and 110 members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly. It is a huge number of people, who will work in councils of people’s deputies. We try to coordinate this work in order to make it truly effective. Certainly, it is not easy. I’d like to outline the tasks that deputies face, the issues they are supposed to address. With this in mind we try to visit every oblast where we hold offsite meetings and we invite members of district councils, city councils, and rural councils of deputies to the meetings. So that they could participate in our events and hear what tasks need to be addressed today.”

According to Natalya Kochanova, one of the main functions of the deputy corps is work on the bills that address problems prompted by life. This is why communication with people is very important. “Then you understand what issues and where need to be addressed. You see how our colleagues on the ground work. We try to ‘ground’ this work. The president wants us to be close to people in order to understand that the bills we pass definitely work for the benefit of the future, prosperity, and development of our country,” the senator explained.
