MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian army is geared towards peace, not war. Leonid Kasinsky, the Defense Minister’s Aide for Ideological Work in the Armed Forces, Chief of the Central Office for Ideological Work at the Belarusian Defense Ministry, mentioned it on the air of the Belarusian TV channel STV, BelTA has learned.

“In simple terms the essence of our military doctrine can be summed up in one sentence. We are an army of peace, not an army of war. We do not threaten anyone and build the national security system in a way that allows us to defend our country and our people if anyone dares talk to us from a position of strength,” said Leonid Kasinsky.

Speaking about the Belarusian army’s weapons, the defense minister’s aide noted that thanks to the president, to the commander-in-chief the country has managed to preserve a fairly large amount of Soviet hardware that had been deployed in the Belarusian military district.

“The president often talks about it: as he says, his heart bled when he saw the tanks being cut into pieces. Today our defense industry and military technology cooperation with the Russian Federation allow us to carry out profound upgrades. Consider T-72 tanks as an example,” Leonid Kasinsky pointed out.

New models of weapons and military equipment are being purchased and introduced. These include new armored personnel carriers and airborne systems: aircraft and helicopters. At the heart of it is the military technology cooperation with Belarus’ main ally, the Russian Federation. “These include tactical nuclear munitions and Oreshnik [hypersonic missiles], which have been commissioned today and have been put on combat duty. These are the deterrent factors that allow us to cool off some hotheads,” he added.

In his words, these weapons are not intended to intimidate. “Our commander-in-chief has clearly stated that we do not want other people’s land. But our state border is a red line. If they cross it, they will receive a fitting response and unacceptable damage,” Leonid Kasinsky emphasized.
