MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) – Belarusian specialists have upgraded the T-72BM2 tank, Defense Minister Lieutenant-General Viktor Khrenin has said, BelTA informs citing the Defense Ministry of Belarus.
The defense minister inspected the 174th training ground of the Air Force and Air Defense. The minister studied the training process of the team that will represent Belarus at the International Army Games 2022 in the Tank Biathlon competition. Also, Viktor Khrenin was shown the T-72BM2. This tank was upgraded by Belarusian specialists at 140 Repair Plant. Currently, the new tank is undergoing testing and may soon enter service at the Belarusian army. In addition, the country's best tank crews have tested the tank in action on the track specially prepared for training tank crews.
“The new T-72BM2 has been unveiled today. Our task (it was also set by the president) was to create a new and modern tank. And, as we have seen today, this goal has been achieved. The T-72BM2 fully meets the necessary requirements and is already undergoing a series of tests, after which a decision will be made on mass production and acceptance into Belarusian army service. The most important thing is that this is our tank, made by our people. The main requirements the new tank had to meet were efficiency, firepower, stability, protection and convenience. These tasks were fulfilled by the staff of the plant,” Viktor Khrenin said.
He noted that the tank crews demonstrated a high level of training. “I would like to wish the guys the will to win, a high competitive spirit, good results and a victory. And we, in turn, will look forward to their return home,” the defense minister noted.
