MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) - The Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation are strengthening law enforcement cooperation. In the context of digital challenges, the countries are synchronizing their efforts to counter cybercrime, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry.

In their reports on the topic, representatives of the two delegations reflected trends, measures to combat them, the relevance of agreements between the two states, mutual assistance in the investigation of criminal cases. Amid promising areas for further cooperation, the parties named the exchange of positive examples of legislative improvements, organization of interaction with the banking and financial sectors, and professional development of employees of specialized departments of the Internal Affairs Ministries.

“It seems expedient to work out the issue of organizing the exchange of information on malicious software detected in the course of operational and service activities, which under the guise of banking or socially important applications is remotely installed by criminals on mobile or computer devices of citizens in order to steal their money. This should be done to improve the effectiveness of countering its use and prevent its spread at the international level,” the head of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry Andrei Kovalev.

“The unified legal framework and trustful dialogue between the Internal Affairs Ministries of the two countries allow us to effectively counter cyber threats. Belarusian experience in combating cybercrime is invaluable,” the head of the Department for Countering the Misuse of Information and Communications Technology of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Filipp Nemov.
